My Story

Matt Joyner is AVP of Wealth Management at Fortis Capital Advisors and anchors the Pacific Northwest region in Portland, Oregon. In 2001 and 2003 Matt’s family adopted two little girls from Texas, Lauren and Selena, respectively. The experience changed Matt and the Joyner family’s lives. Several discussions between Matt and his clients–as well as personal experience as a brother to two adopted sisters–inspired him to create a first-of-its-kind financial planning curriculum that benefits families that are or are thinking of adopting children.
Matt was born and raised in a suburb of Flint, Michigan. Early on, Matt developed a love for leadership and public service that led him to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Matt would go on to attend Michigan State University where he graduated in 2016 with his B.A. in Economics.
After graduation, Matt joined Fisher Investments in Camas, Washington as an associate under the tutelage of billionaire investor Ken Fisher. In 2018 he was promoted to Investment Counselor where he worked with 190 households totaling over $230M in assets and ended his tenure as a top quartile Investment Counselor. He left Fisher in 2021 to accept an offer as Vice President with Denver-based Personal Capital, now Empower Personal Wealth.
Outside of the office Matt serves as Chairman of the Endowment Committee and member of the Trust Committee for the Cascade Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also serves on a social activities committee at the Multnomah Athletic Club. Matt is also a freelance columnist and is published in The Detroit News, Statesman Journal, Daily Stoic, and New York Observer.
Matt lives outside of Portland, Oregon with his wife Caroline. In his spare time Matt enjoys hiking, backpacking, cycling, reading, writing, and traveling.
